When American saxophonist Greg Abate made his first ever visit to Tyneside last year, the Corner House audience was bowled over, and we were immediately inundated with demands to bring him back. So that's what we've done - but we've made it an even tastier prospect by teaming him up with the UK's own straightahead reeds virtuoso Alan Barnes.
The two of them have played together in the past, and it was immediately evident that they were kindred spirits - in fact the results have been issued on the appropriately named album 'Birds of a Feather'. Their repertoire is a mix of standards and originals - the latter mainly by Abate, and stylistically deeply rooted in the classic bebop mode to which he continues to bring great passion and imagination.
For this gig we've teamed them up with an outstanding North East rhythm section, more than able to provide swinging support for the two reedsmen, but also likely to provide their own delights in the solo department.
Tickets for this gig are available from J G Windows of Central Arcade, Newcastle: 0191 232 1356
