Paris-based trio 'Q', who come to Tyneside for their only UK gig outside London, have been described as having "all the rampant and intoxicating presence" of John Zorn's legendary Naked City "in heavy grindcore mode".
The trio is led by drummer Sylvain Darrifourcq, who played a Jazz North East gig last year as part of the Emile Parisien Quartet, and whose playing combines a depth of beat and vigour of propulsion that's reminiscent of New York's Jim Black. The other two members are both leading lights of the new young French avant garde, with menacing bass lines from Fanny Lasfargues and guitar playing from Julien Desprez that mixes Scofield-esque riffs and Frisell-like textures with ferocious rock energy.
This gig is made possible with the help of funding from the Arts Council and the French Music Export Bureau.
