Born in Toulouse in 1974, Ivan Gelugne was initially a student of literature, but in his early 20s he committed himself to the study and playing of music. Much of his early work was with other musicians from Toulouse and South West France, until in 2004 he joined the Emile Parisien Quartet and began to attract more attention on the national scene. As well as working in jazz, Ivan is active in several contemporary music ensembles, and with the large Orchestre Bayonne-Côte Basque.
