Newcastle-based Sue Ferris rose to prominence with the Frank Zappa-influenced band Wagga Jawacka, and has also worked in other rock, soul and R\'n\'B groups. But in recent years she has concentrated on her jazz output, with the Voice of the North Orchestra, Gerry Richardson\'s Big Idea, and increasingly with her own excellent quintet. A powerfully assured player in everything from delicate ballads to post-bop burn-ups, Sue is now one of the busiest and most respected players on the North East jazz scene.
