By day Graeme Wilson is a psychology researcher at Newcastle University, but when night falls he emerges as a hugely versatile saxophonist who has been a member of the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra since its earliest days, having played and recorded with such luminaries as Fred Frith, Evan Parker and Barry Guy.
But you don't get to be a top flight free improviser without really understanding the whole history of jazz saxophone, and Graeme puts in plenty of mileage in more straightahead contexts, playing a swinging role with vocalist Ruth Lambert, fronting up Andy Champion's acclaimed contemporary quintet ACV, and most recently forming his own quartet to perform an expanding book of highly imaginative original compositions.
