Harry Beckett, who died in 2010, was a player with an outstanding reputation throughout Europe and the USA. He played with Charles Mingus in the film All Night Long, then worked with John Surman, Django Bates, Ronnie Scott, Zila, Johnny Dyani, Kathy Stobart, Charlie Watts, Stan Tracey, Annie Whitehead, Jah Wobble, David Murray and Marylin Mazur. He was a member of Pierre Dorge`s New Jungle Orchestra for several years, and enjoyed a long association with Chris McGregor, from the classic early Brotherhood of Breath through the later big band and numerous small groups in between. Several of his records, such as Flare Up and Joy Unlimited, have become classics.
