Like many younger Scottish musicians, Edinburgh-based pianist Steve Hamilton first came to widespread attention working with Tommy Smith, appearing on the saxophonist's 'Beasts of Scotland' album in 1996. A modest man (his website is almost entirely taken up with videos of other musicians), he has nonetheless been a key player in many of the most interesting Scottish groups, including those of Paul Towndrow and Laura Macdonald, as well as continuing his association with Smith, and leading his own trio with Michael Janisch and Stu Ritchie.
